What is it?
Trauma is an emotional and psychological response to distressing or life-altering events that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope. It can result from a single event or prolonged exposure to stressful situations. Trauma affects thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, often leading to long-term distress if left unaddressed. However, with the right support, healing is possible.
Prevalence and statistics?
70% of adults experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime.
1 in 3 people who experience trauma may develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Over 60% of children and adolescents are exposed to trauma, which can affect emotional development and mental health.
Unresolved trauma can lead to anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and physical health issues.
